Poker Hands Ranking
The most important thing you'll have to know about poker is the hand ranking. A standard poker card pack has 52 cards. The regular ranking of individual cards, from high to low, is ace, king, queen, jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2. Usually, there is no ranking between the suits.
Standard poker hand has five cards. In here we will list the ranking of the hands from the highest to the lowest.
In the event of a tie, the player with the best individual cards will win the round.
Here's the standard poker hand ranking:
- Royal Flush- The best poker hand. It consists of ace, king, queen, jack and 10, all in the same suit. All royal flushes are equal since all suits are equal.
- Straight Flush- Five cards of the same suit in sequence. Sometimes the ace can be counted as low (for example, as a 1).
- Four of a kind- Four cards of the same rank, for example, four jacks or four tens. The 5th card in the hand has no meaning. If there's a tie between two four of a kinds, the one with the higher cards, wins.
- Full House- This hand has three cards of the same rank and two of another rank, for example, three fives and two sevens. If there's a tie, the rank of the three cards determines which hand wins.
- Flush- Five cards of the same suit. If there's a tie, the highest card determines which hand wins.
- Straight %u2013 Five cards of mixed suits in sequence. If there's a tie, the one with the higher ranking top card is the hand that wins.
- Three of a kind- Three cards of the same rank and two other cards, also known as Triplets. If there's a tie the hand with the three equal cards with the higher rank wins.
- Two Pairs- Two sets of two cards of the same rank.
- Pair- A hand with two cards of equal rank. The other three cards do not have any effect if they're not matching.
High Card- If none of the players have any of the combination, the player with the highest card wins.
