The DO / DO NOT of Poker Gambling

One of the main things you need to learn (if you are not a polite person by nature) is how not to anger or antagonize your fellow poker players unnecessarily by behaving rudely, harshly and badly. You do not want them to gang up against you, do you?

When gambling either at casinos or at poker rooms, it is important to follow basic rules of etiquette when playing poker, video poker, texas holdem or any other type of poker game and variation.

Most poker etiquette is common sense and if you respect others and are in general polite you should be fine.

  • Do not swear
  • Do not be mean to the dealer or to other poker players.
  • Do not play slowly
  • Do not make others wait for you to play.
  • Do not throw your chips into the pot as it messes the place up and prevents others from calculating the amount of money in the pot.
  • Place your chips in a tidy heap especially if you place them in the pot.
  • Do not bet or act out of turn. Wait for your turn before you do anything.
  • Do not grab more than you intend to bet as you place your bet. Do not do this to freak other poker players from thinking you are going to bet a large amount.
  • Do not flirt or try and pick up any of your fellow poker players at the table. If you see someone hot, wait till they leave the table and then try your luck.
  • Do not comment on the hand of any other poker player during a game. You could be giving unfair advice to those less experienced.
  • Do not use abusive language at the table.
  • Do not chat too much. It disturbs others.
  • Do not boast if you win big.
